Across all carmakers, Cash for Clunkers contributed to 690,114 new car sales. Toyota sold 6.4% more new cars in August 2009 than in August 2008. This was largely spurred by sales of the Corolla, which was the top selling Cash for Clunkers car. A few traits of the Corolla which made it so popular are its fuel efficiency (26/35 est mpg) and affordable ticket price. Most Toyota Vehicles Benefitted from Cash for Clunkers
Though the Corolla was the big winner in Cash for Clunkers, many Toyotas benefitted from the promotion. Seventeen of Toyota's vehicles qualified for the Cash for Clunkers Program. This includes cars of all sizes, including Avalon, Camry, Corolla, Matrix, Solara, Venza, and Yaris.
Cars weren't the only vehicles which met the estimated epa benchmarks necessary to qualify for Cash for Clunkers. Thanks to Toyota excellent engineering, most of Toyota's SUVs qualified. This includes the FJ Cruiser, Highlander, Rav4, 4Runner and the Sienna minivan. All of Toyota's trucks qualified for the CARS rebate as well.
Toyota's line of hybrids were popular vehicles during the Cash for Clunkers program. This is because they were great choices for people looking to get the maximum rebate. With options like the Camry Hybrid, Highlander Hybrid, and the Prius, Toyota has hybrid options for all types of buyers.
