With the fall season comes changing leaves, holidays, and sweater weather. It also means that some vehicle maintenance checks are in order so you can stay safe on the roads. S0, follow these autumn vehicle maintenance tips and enjoy this season to the full.

1. Check your tire pressure.

With every 10 degree drop, your tire pressure decreases by 1 to 2 pounds. Ensure that your tires are in good shape by checking the pressure and inflating them if needed.

2. Consider switching to winter tires.

An all-season’s tire tread is less likely to be able to grip the road once the temperature drops below 45 degrees. So, especially if snow and ice are an issue, switching to winter tires might be your best and safest option.

3. Make sure your battery is in good shape.

Cold weather is tough on batteries. Once the temperature reaches 32 degrees, a car battery decreases by 35 percent. In order to avoid a sticky situation out in the cold, double check that your battery is good to go for the colder temperatures.

4. Check your wiper blades, heater and defrosters.

These three parts of your car are some of the most important in cold weather, but you don’t need us to tell you that. Make sure that they’re all working as they should be. Specifically, check the fluid level in the windshield washer reservoir. It may not be the first thing that comes to mind, but you never know when you’ll need to clean some mud off your windshield from the autumn rain.

5. Get your brakes checked.

Last but never least, make sure your breaks are working at their best. Fall and winter mean rain, snow, wet leaves and mud on the roads, so your brakes are of the utmost importance.
