New 2016 Toyota Racing Development Models

Auto show season is in full swing and it offers a full complement of excitement for fans of all brands. Here at Toyota of Greensburg, we have had a close eye on the big stage at the Chicago Auto Show and Toyota designers did not disappoint. With the unveiling of two new 2016 Toyota Racing Development models, the theme this year was power and performance. Take a closer look at the rejuvenated 2016 Toyota Rally RAV4 racer and the extreme 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro edition.

Toyota Rally RAV4 Design and Specs

A relative newcomer to the Toyota Racing Development, the new Toyota Rally RAV4 racer made its debut last year and is driven by Toyota pro driver Ryan Millen. Competing in the NASA Rally Sport series, the dynamic Toyota racer won four out of five races last year in the Western U.S. This year the refined racer is built on the 2016 Toyota RAV4 SE platform and is set to compete in both the Atlantic Rally Cup and Pacific Rally Cup circuits.

With a stock 2.5-liter four-cylinder under the hood, the Toyota Rally RAV4 will manufacture 176 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque. No powertrain adjustments have been made. Set to race in the 2WD-Open Class, the Toyota RAV4 racer employs a six-speed automatic transmission for a responsive performance. The few modifications that have been made are geared towards safety, communications and convenience, which include a roll cage as well as driver/navigator communications gear.

Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro Design and Specs

Perhaps the biggest highlight of the Chicago Auto Show, the debut of the 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro is a feather in the cap of Toyota Racing Development. Available in fall of 2016, this off-road-tuned pickup truck is perfect for your off-road adventures. Loaded with off-road features and innovative technology, the Tacoma TRD Pro will be tough to beat when you hit the trail and will undoubtedly see action on off-road racing circuits.

Powered by the new 278-horsepower 3.5-liter Atkinson cycle V-6, the Tacoma TRD Pro has plenty of power to decimate even the most extreme terrain. Featuring a part-time four-wheel drive system with electronic differentials, you will find traction no matter how far off the beaten path you may go — Kevlar-reinforced Goodyear Wrangler tires don’t hurt either. The Toyota Racing Development Team kicked things up a notch for this one, adding TRD-tuned FOX 2.5 Internal Bypass shocks and a TRD-tuned suspension system. Inside the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro, you will be surrounded by innovative features and premium materials, including black TRD heated leather front seats.

We have come to love the products that Toyota Racing Development has given us, from the 2016 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro to the all-new 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro.
