Toyota Sienna Will Race in 2016 One Lap of America

Who says driving a minivan can’t be fun? Recent news that the Toyota Sienna will race in the 2016 One Lap of America road rally is evidence to the contrary. You may recall the track-tuned Toyota Sienna R Concept we detailed in a previous post, and now the athletic “Swagger Wagon” will hit the track in the cross-country road race. Nothing says excitement and fun like the family-friendly Toyota Sienna on steroids and ready to hit the track.

What is the One Lap of America Road Rally?

Imagine the ultimate road trip. An incredible test of endurance and driving skills, the One Lap of America road rally will run a course of 2,827 miles through a dozen states, with stops at eight individual race venues. At each venue, teams will compete in 17 timed events that will run the gamut from road courses and autocross courses to drag races and skid pads. All of these events will take place in just eight days, from April 30 to May 7 with teams driving through the night between races. This rigorous event is sure to test the mettle of Toyota drivers and the Toyota Sienna models they are driving.

Toyota Sienna R-Tuned Concept and Toyota Sienna SE+ Designs

After being unveiled at the 2015 SEMA Show in November, the Toyota Sienna R-Tuned Concept caught the eye of many Toyota aficionados. Equipped with a standard 266-horsepower 3.5-liter V-6 and automatic transmission, the track-ready Toyota Sienna boasts blistering times on the test track that will rival models like the 2016 Chevy Camaro. The Toyota Sienna R-Tuned Concept will be joined on the One Lap of America track by a Toyota Sienna SE+ Concept.

When the Toyota Sienna SE+ hits the track, it promises a thrilling performance and new-age style. Revised front and rear bumpers will highlight the Sienna SE+ and will be amplified by new headlights, taillights, badges, bezels and door handles. Black satin mirrors, Laser Black 19-inch wheels with Pirelli P Zero tires, two-tone roof rails and an enhanced spoiler will complete the new look. While the Toyota Sienna R-Tuned model will compete in the Truck/SUV class, the Sienna SE+ will run in the Exhibition class.

To make this announcement even more exciting, the Toyota Sienna racers will be joined on the track by the 2016 Toyota Avalon and the Scion FR-S, which will be available as the 2017 Toyota 86 later this fall. A team of veteran drivers will pilot the Toyota Sienna models that consists of Top Gear host Rutledge Wood, Grand-Am Rolex GT Champion Craig Stanton, Sienna Chief Engineer Andrew Lund and drag race specialist Sean Morris. This thrilling race event starts on April 30, so stay tuned for race results.
